1st Little City Concerts Young Pianists Recital and Masterclass

We are happy to announce the 1st Little City Concerts Young Pianists Recital and Masterclass, taking place over the weekend of February 15 - 16, 2025. These events are in conjunction with Sophia Vastek's concert on Saturday, 2/15 at 7:30pm at The Falls Church in Falls Church City. We are so excited to host this opportunity for young musicians in our community: students will have the opportunity to be selected to play on a recital of their peers, perform for Sophia in a masterclass setting, and possibly perform as an opening act on Sophia's concert. 

Guidelines: 

High school age pianists living in Falls Church City, Fairfax County, and Arlington County are invited to submit an entry for the following events: 

- Saturday, 2/15 at 11:00am - 12:30pm: Masterclass with Sophia Vastek
- Saturday, 2/15 at 7:30pm: Opening Act for Sophia Vastek's Concert

- Sunday, 2/16 at 2pm: Recital 

All events take place in the modern sanctuary of The Falls Church, located at 166 E Broad St in Falls Church City. All applicants will receive a complimentary ticket to Sophia Vastek's concert on February 15th at 7:30pm. Please note that students get in free to any Little City Concerts event; applicants can share this ticket with family members that are not students. Students must be enrolled in high school to be eligible. Home-schooled students of high school age are eligible.

The fee to participate is $25 per entry (one entry per student). Submission is done via a shared streaming video link (youtube preferred). We welcome all musical repertoire that students have prepared. We particularly encourage applicants to include music by contemporary composers (including their own composition), as well as composers from marginalized groups based on gender, race, nationality, or other underrepresented backgrounds. All submissions should be under 10 minutes; if preparing a longer multi-movement work, please send a single movement. If submitting a movement of a larger work, please clearly indicate which movement you wish to present. 

All entries must be received by January 15th, 2025. Students will be notified of their acceptance on or around January 21st, 2025. Please read the full guidelines and submit your entry via this google form.
